Back firms, shop local

• ISLINGTON Chamber of Commerce is right to warn readers that government cuts pose grave risks to small businesses in Islington (Help firms survive cuts, July 16).
The impact of the government’s policy will be catastrophic.
Unemployment will rise by more than a million and places like Islington will be badly hit.
By sucking so much money out of the economy, consumer spending will plunge and small local firms are vulnerable.
Government cuts mean that business support services which help small firms to expand will disappear.
That’s why Islington Council is continuing to fund a range of initiatives that support companies, including our own business turnaround service.
In the last year the service has safeguarded 154 local jobs in businesses that would otherwise have been lost.
To access the service contact John McNamara on 020 7278 5757.
By far the best way to support local businesses is to shop in them and give them our custom.
