Use of gas-guzzling 4X4s is simply anti-social behaviour
• LIVING in a small residential street in Camden, I frequently suffer from the nuisance of urban 4x4 usage.
The fact my door opens directly onto the street means each day the first thing I see when I open my front door is a huge gas-guzzling 4x4! Squeezing around it is frequently the first stage of my commute to work.
My question is this: why on earth does someone living in Camden, with its good transport links, need a gas-guzzling vehicle like this?
What makes it worse, is that most of the time these vehicles are carrying only one or two passengers.
In the case of the one outside my house, it’s a single adult who needs the vehicle to drive one child around in “safety”… OK, but what about the rest of us?
In the centre of a city like London these vehicles endanger other road users, require more space, create congestion and they’re worse for the environment.
Why do we put up with them?
In fact, some would describe the use of these vehicles in urban residential streets as anti-social behaviour. It’s hard to dispute that.
