Site’s size is the real issue
• THE letter (Medical science is a boon to all humanity, December 31) was entirely correct in responding to the letter the previous week about the value of medical science.
But the debate is misdirected.
The issue for the proposed UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation laboratory behind the British Library is the suitability of this site.
Now that we have seen models for the proposed lab, it is obvious that the developers are trying to squeeze it into a far smaller site than it needs and it has always been clear that this is a site that is desperately needed by local people – for housing and community facilities.
Why not redevelop the 30-acre site at Mill Hill, rather than put an unsuitable facility in a grossly inappropriate place?
