Promises, promises
• BEFORE Boris Johnson was elected to City Hall, he promised to build 50,000 affordable homes by 2011.
He has since been forced to admit they will not actually all be new (many are likely to be replacements for demolished homes), and won’t be delivered by 2011.
Boris has tried to claim credit for 20,000 homes that have been delivered since May 2008, ignoring the fact that these figures relate to housing schemes in the pipeline before the mayor was elected.
With his policy of allowing many councils, especially in outer London, to build as few affordable homes as they like, London’s housing progress is in danger of being reversed.
