Leaseholders paying extra
I TOTALLY agree with Wendy Houstoun (Costs for a leaseholder trapped in the middle, January 21).
As a leaseholder of Camden Council I, too, had to pay for over-inflated bills for major works done on the cheap. It is a common practice from the council –to give you an estimate for major work in an estate and once the scaffolding is up and the work has begun they will send you another Section 20 notice saying that something new hascome up and you have to pay extra money.
This, when the unforeseen new work is at ground level and they are charging us for the supposed work done by
a surveyor.
I too, as Wendy Houstoun (and who knows how many other people?) had to pay twice for the same job because the first time was badly done.
We have also written to complain through our tenants and leaseholders association, Artisan Dwellings.
The list of grievances is a long one. It is about time Camden Council is independently audited on how it charges leaseholders. How can this council have the audacity to boast about “value for money”?
