Gunning for drivers
• I READ Kathy Manners’ letter about having her car towed away in Hackney and feel very sorry for her (Park at your peril, January 8). However, I’d like to warn drivers in Islington that traffic wardens are up to similar tricks in our beloved borough.
Just before Christmas, my car was ticketed for the heinous crime of being parked on a single yellow line . . . at 7pm. It was in Highbury Crescent, Highbury, near the swimming pool. Apparently, the restrictions on parking in that area do not just refer to parking in residents’ spaces – who knew?
Of course, Arsenal were playing at home and this seems to mean the normal rules of the Highway Code can be suspended.
How I, with no interest in football, am supposed to know the dates of fixtures baffles me? The parking signs merely list a Football Hotline number to call – at my own expense supposedly.
Like your earlier correspondent, I am appealing.
