Gangs will dump on us

• WHY are the Labour council candidates in St George’s ward constantly writing about skips (Skips part of the solution, January 1)? I can’t believe it’s the most burning political issue on the doorstep.
Regular skips would just legitimise tipping. People should dispose of their own rubbish properly, not leave it on street corners for the taxpayer to pay to remove – because that’s what council skips would mean.
Big fly-tipping is usually done by criminal gangs for profit. If the council provides skips where these gangs can dump rubbish without any risk of prosecution, Islington would become a magnet for gangs. And council tax-payers would have to pick up the bill.
