There are no plans to build new council housing

• ON the Maiden Lane demolition Open Communities want us to believe the statistics they keep repeating.
But to get the numbers they claim, they must have counted the same people at least three times.
They rather give the game away, however, when they proclaim “residents, who want demolition, give a positive view”, hardly a neutral position for consultants.
But, most misleading, is when they mention “priority” offered to residents for the new buildings by the council.
They hope this will be misunderstood to mean priority in new council housing.
It does not.
There are no plans to build new council housing; there never were. What is planned is to clear the whole estate, knock it down, and flog it to private interests.
If anyone is naive enough to believe the commitments and promises of politicians, ask what happened to the tenement block vote that was promised!
