Stop whingeing, and give thanks for Freedom Pass
• I AM 67 and my wife is in her 50s. She spends about £25 a week on fares so the Freedom Pass is a godsend to retired people (Frail face Freedom Pass ‘obstacle course’, February 5). Far better than the paltry pension rises we have had of late.
The new passes are much more professional than the ones they are replacing and incorporate the ID picture.
So, all in all, they are a good thing. The fact that you have to go to the post office is a minor irritation, the main purpose of which is to prevent fraud.
This exercise has to be done only every five years, which surely is not too much to ask.
Anyone not capable of visiting a post office once in five years would be unlikely to be able to travel by bus anyway.
The term “never look a gift horse in the mouth” springs to mind.
So just be thankful you get the pass in the first place and stop whingeing.

I WAS surprised to see the letter from Labour councillor Janet Burgess accusing the Lib Dems of scaremongering about the safety of our much-treasured Freedom Pass.
I have in my hand a card from our MP, Emily Thornberry, inviting me to return it to her to support her in protecting the Freedom Pass.
Scaremongering – or what? I leave it to your readers to judge.
