Questions over sell-offs
Published: 25 February 2010
• YOUR front-page story rightly drew attention to the private developer/landlord profits being made from the current council housing sell-offs.
As a (Labour) council candidate I recently canvassed in Winsham House, Churchway NW1.
I was surprised to find the flat in that block that had recently been sold off already tenanted by the new private landlord, with little sign of the Liberal Democrat-Tory claimed necessary rebuilding or refurbishment.
I was even more alarmed at other clear voids in the block, including an apparently empty flat still with Christmas decorations up. Can the council give an assurance it is not deliberately leaving or creating empty properties for future
sell-offs to private developers and landlords, while thousands remain on the council waiting list?
