Provide these schools with extra double-decker buses
Published: 4 February 2010
• I WOULD like to make two practical suggestions aimed at easing the congestion on the buses along Highgate Road at the end of classes (about 3.15pm) at the three secondary schools there, Parliament Hill, William Ellis and La Sainte Union.
First, could Transport for London put on, say, three extra double-decker buses at that time between Swains Lane and Kentish Town only?
I feel sure this would be sufficient. I undersand TfL have already rejected putting on more buses.
Secondly, could the three schools consider starting as many after-school activities as possible right at the end of classes so as to stagger the departure of children.
Some 3,000 children attend the three schools and the problems only arise in term-time and mainly on week-day afternoons.
The issue dominated a recent meeting in Highgate Village of the local Safer Neighbourhoods panel.
Highgate Labour Party would prefer a practical solution and not one which demonises children, parents and the schools.
