Objectors play the same old game

• WHENEVER I see headlines like Red card for park’s World Cup, (February 12), I know that it is because these same famous faces live in or around one of the best parts of London and they don’t want others to spoil “their” patch.
We have the same in Highgate with Kenwood concerts, all the objections come from the wealthy property owners who live nearby, who don’t want “their” peace disturbed.
But ask any of the thousands who come to spend summer evenings, picnicking on the grass, listening to music and you would understand why public places must continue to be public places.
Regent’s Park is no exception. It would be fun for families to be able to spend leisure time in the park with other people, enjoying the football and the ice creams or whatever catering or facilities are involved.
It’s only for one month and I bet that the people who object will be away on their yachts, earning mega-bucks for another film in Hollywood or sipping chablis in their French chateaux.
Yes, I’m generalising, but so are they by suggesting that it will be an alcohol-fuelled and lamentable event.
Let’s be generous with our London and share what we taxpayers are all entitled to.
