How many need help?

• I THANK the New Journal for highlighting my neighbour’s terrible situation. (Man left to live in ‘horror film’, February 18).
Camden Council commented that they were “aware” of this tenant’s situation; that the council only under “extreme circumstances” would take action; that in this case they “decided it was not appropriate or in the tenant’s best interests”.
I ask the council and social services, having seen the photographs and the report, when would it have been in his interest to step in?
When he died in the freezing weather? When the maggots were eating his body?
Would it have been then that you would have intervened?
The stench that came from his flat filled the communal hall and if someone did come to see him anyone with an ounce of sense and compassion would have realised the seriousness of the situation.
You, Camden Council and your social services, did nothing. Absolutely nothing.
This situation was caused by you and you alone!
How many more vulnerable and elderly people who live in your street properties, who are crying out for help, have been ignored, because it is not appropriate, or in the (individual’s) interests?
Your comment on this case to the New Journal, is horrifying. Shame on you, Camden Council!
