Election U-turn?
• MANY of us still remember the hullabaloo reported in the Tribune last year when the Lib Dems’ council budget was overturned by the opposition (‘I didn’t nick Labour’s budget’, February 5).
I still remember the Lib Dems solidly voting as a block and many of their councillors condemning and abusing the opposition’s proposed alternative budget, which included not only universal free meals in primary schools but also the £100 council tax discount for all of us over 65.
Clearly, a year in politics is a long time. It should be of great interest to know what justification, although welcomed, the Lib Dem councillors have for such a dramatic reversal of policy or is it just another aspiration to win an election?
