Curb speed merchants
• I WAS shocked to read that police are “not routinely enforcing the 20mph speed limit” (Drivers left to speed in 20mph zones, January 22).
Residents have voted at all four area committees for 20mph limits on every residential street not previously included in a 20mph zone. The majority of Islington residents appear to appreciate the many benefits of reduced traffic speed and are prepared to show some courtesy to fellow residents by slowing down on residential roads, for which as a resident, pedestrian and cyclist I’m very grateful.
While the majority of drivers aim to comply with the speed limit, the anti-social behaviour of a few is a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of residents and requires a firm response from police.
