Checks on repair teams
• READERS may be interested to know that employees of Homes for Islington (HfI) having access to their homes are not all CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked.
As an Islington leaseholder, I understand that HfI personnel, repair staff and contractors on big projects such as Decent Homes work are not required to have CRB checks to see if they have convictions relating to children and vulnerable adults.
I believe they should be. Schools across the borough now require nearly everyone coming into contact with children to be checked. Those working with vulnerable adults have to be checked, yet any number of builders, contractors and repair workers are allowed by HfI to have unfettered access to estates and homes. I believe this is not putting the safety of tenants and their families first.
I also understand that HfI is going to require that repair teams and building contract workers in future are CRB checked. If they think it’s important, why not do it now?
