Bookshop rent victim?
Published: 25 February 2010
• HOW ironic that Gay’s the Word has survived Mary Whitehouse and repressive court actions only seemingly to fall victim to Camden, who propose to raise their rent 25 per cent.
Gay’s the Word bookshop does have a very significant place in the struggle in this country for lesbian and gay rights, but that is not the only reason it deserves our support.
Camden needs vibrant small shops and businesses and the council should be doing all it can to support good local shops, not subjecting them to exorbitant rent rises.
