We keep clean streets

• ONCE again Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg has got the wrong end of the stick (‘Clean-up’ plans mess, Letters, November 26).
He states the “frontager” idea was “launched” which, of course, it never has been. As you’d expect, council officers often look at other countries around the world to see how they do things and whether we can learn anything, rather than simply assuming we know it all as Cllr Dimoldenberg would seemingly have us do.
Officers reported back on how in some parts of America residents take responsibility for cleaning and maintaining areas outside their property.
It was dismissed months ago, when it was raised, as something that wouldn’t work here and as something this council wouldn’t wish to explore further.
Keeping streets clean and safe is what Westminster is rightly famous for.
He also gets it wrong in suggesting the leader’s Living City in Tough Times document referred to this a couple of weeks ago – the document’s reference was to looking at ways we can all be encouraged to look after our neighbourhoods by doing things like not dropping litter; picking up litter; clearing snow – all common sense things which, with the apparent exception of Cllr Dimoldenberg, we’d all like to see more of.
