Route festooned with rubbish
Published: 23 December, 2010
• YOU may wish to know something of the recent history of the “toilet” end of Camden in respect of the filth – and smells – commented on by your correspondent Anne Humphrey (December 16).
Camden housing managers in July of this year decided to withdraw the bin room facilities on the estates local to Crowndale Road, Camden Street, without any prior discussion with the residents. This took place in July 2010 although there had been complaints about dumped rubbish for many years prior to this move.
“Eurobins” were placed in open estate areas and on the public street (Camden Street), even though this is certainly not hygienic and it has other associated problems. The placing of a rubbish disposal facility on a public street for the use of those on a residential estate is, by itself questionable. However, bin areas attract dumping in the area immediate to the bins, a well known syndrome.
There are those who just put their rubbish near the bin and whatever the views of others this is very well known, it is demonstrated every day in Camden Street.
Many emails have been sent to the estate managers, these are, in virtually all cases (96 per cent in my case), ignored.
Letters to their superiors, even to the head of housing, are ignored. Therefore we have, en route to the third biggest tourist attraction in Europe (Camden Lock) from the multi-million pound brand new arrival point – St Pancras International Station – a route festooned with dumped rubbish courtesy of Camden housing management who obstinately refuse to deal with the problem.
