Party was just a PR stunt

• WE all support the council cutting back on unnecessary spending when times are so tight (Cracker of a people’s party, December 24). But while Islington Council organised a one-off party for pensioners with a hand-selected audience – nothing more than a council-funded PR stunt for Labour politicians – at the same time the council is closing one of the most popular elderly lunch clubs and day centres in the borough at Sotheby Mews in Highbury.
