Confusing speed limits

Published: 3 December, 2010

• THEY say our borough roads have 20mph limits. I would  be delighted if it was true. But Transport for London roads and red routes still have 30mph limits.

Even more confusingly, some of the council’s own roads are 30mph too.

Each day I drive home from work through Haringey, up Crouch End Hill, which is 20mph, but when I cross the border into the “20mph borough” of Islington the limit increases to 30mph.

It is quite confusing, which accounts for the proliferation of traffic signs.

Until Islington Council gets its act together and makes all its roads 20mph it should stop making idle and inaccurate boasts to residents and the media.
