Children’s services hit, but finance dept gets off lightly

Published: 10th December, 2010

• THERE must be something terribly wrong, if not criminally irresponsible as well as supremely incompetent, when a council, of whatever hue, in one of the most socially deprived areas of the country, can cut 15 per cent of children’s services and yet manage to find only nine out of 571 posts to chop in a finance department not widely known for its effectiveness (Staff working with children bear the brunt of job losses, December 3). And to finance bin snooping.

The public has a right to know how councillors Catherine West and Richard Watts explain this disgrace and whether they will change it.
