A trust in secrecy?

Published: 19 August, 2010

• RECENT events lead to the view that the Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust sees itself as a branch of the secret service.

This foundation trust has removed “mental health and social care” from its title so that on first inspection no one could tell what business it is in. It has tried to hide the fact that it has effectively closed St Luke’s Hospital and recently cancelled the development of a secure unit once knowledge of it became public.

It is a membership organisation that claims to be democratic and has elected governors. Recent trouble has required it to look again at its constitution and a new one has been prepared and is likely to be voted through in September. The constitution, however, has been deemed secret and none of the members who are governed by it will be allowed to see it until it is in place.

This trust seem to have been infected with a new and dangerous condition that requires them to do everything in secret.

Is there any psychiatrist there who can treat this?
