Primaries hit

• IT is not only Camden’s secondary schools which are suffering under Tory-Liberal Democrat government cuts to school building programmes (Education cuts to leave £167m hole, August 19).

Camden’s Liberal Democrat-Tory coalition “decided to postpone indefinitely” some £20million of capital funding to five needy primary schools, two of which are in the Gospel Oak ward.

The rationale for this was the need for a new school in the north-west of the borough.

However, the statistical basis on the numbers of pupil places required not only in the north-west but across the whole of Camden needs reviewing.

This is currently underway.

Alas, the £20million may go the way the £167million with the central government decision and this is expected on the October 20.

The five primary schools involved are anxiously awaiting this decision
