Our town green plans
Published: 27 August, 2010
• RESIDENTS have made a bid to create a “town green” at Marie Lloyd Gardens, off Hornsey Rise, Upper Holloway, undertaken following Open Spaces Society advice.
This may increase protection and possibly reduce threats to the site in the longer term.
Residents have collaborated with the council to restore the site, doing most of the work themselves, while at the same time respecting wildlife habitats.
During a recent barbecue at the site, children were again picking and eating their fill of blackberries, with adults enjoying the wild plums growing there.
Thanks to all involved for making it a success.
In the view of a community planning consultant, residents’ contributions towards the upkeep of the site reduce council resource input, an attractive position at a time of budgetary constraints.
This should be allowed to continue.
Increased activities should be considered, such as maintaining and informally growing fruit, flowers and vegetables.
It has also been suggested that the site could be used by the relocated Ashmount School.
So please support the work of Marie Lloyd Gardens Open Space Group.
