Hypocrites

• I’M shocked that Liberal Democrat councillor Chris Naylor can summon up the audacity to talk about Labour “going back on their manifesto commitments”.

Yes, it is a shame that Holly Lodge flats could be sold off and I sincerely hope Labour will find some other way of funding repairs, but is it not the case that the spending cuts which Labour say are forcing their hands are a direct result of Lib Dems “breaking promises”, exactly what they now condemn Labour for?

During the election, Cllr Naylor’s party campaigned with Labour on the economy, saying the recovery was still too fragile for spending cuts to be made this year.

No sooner had David Cameron offered Lib Dems ministerial jobs, they U-turned on this position.

In a documentary last week Nick Clegg revealed that he had in fact changed his mind on this issue and on election day was secretly backing the Tories’ policy.

Why didn’t he tell the public? Was he afraid he might lose votes?

No, he must have forgotten, and many Liberal candidates carried on campaigning on their original policy.

Not only have the Lib Dems proved themselves hypocrites by railing against their own practice of U-turns but they have also treated the public with contempt by suggesting any changes are not the business of their voters.
