Freedom that was earned
Published: 26 August, 2010
• I AGREE with the lady in your paper (Why losing my Freedom Pass will mean losing much more, August 12).
Like me, she is a carer for an elderly person.
I look after my wife, 24 hours a day.
She has Alzheimer’s but enjoys a short trip to places around London, when we get to use our Freedom Passes.
The lady in question mentioned those people who have served in past wars.
I did so in Korea, when in the National Service.
We didn’t get anything for this; if I remember rightly they took away our overseas allowance because they reckoned we wouldn’t have anything to spend it on out there.
Now the government wants to take our passes away.
I think they should think again, and take into account all those in the past who have given so much to society and for this country.
They should not cancel the Freedom Pass.
