Attack on Freedom Pass is just age discrimination

Published: 5 August, 2010

• WITH all the debate about doing away with the Freedom Pass (or at least severely curtailing it), I would like to ask what is going to be done about the carte blanche attitude of issuing free school passes?

Older people are already discriminated against, so why do that to a section of society who, almost to a person, have “paid their way” in society, and now deserve a “few perks”.

To date what has a school-aged child paid to society?

Without being cynical, we all know that Camden has enough feral youths!

Too many schoolchildren use the buses to go one stop, simply because they do not have to pay.

By all means have school passes for bus and Tube; but only when there is a need to ride, and not walk.

Before any angry parent writes in about child safety etcetera I add that this is for another debate and discussion.

To take away or tamper with our Freedom Pass, is another example of senior citizens being turned into second class citizens.

It is not on.

So, leave it as it is!
