Who is in coalition?

Published: 30 April, 2010

• FOLLOWING months of Lib Dem attacks on Labour over the future of Whittington Hospital, Shirley Franklin, joint chair of the Defend the Whittington Hospital Coalition, has revealed the truth about who is actually involved in the campaign to save the hospital.
The coalition was set up on a non-sectarian basis to defend the hospital and its public services. Of course, there are political differences between the parties to the coalition. But these have been put aside in relation to the Whittington, so as to focus on defending hospital services such as the accident and emergency department and the maternity unit.
Shirley has pointed out that the Lib Dems in Islington have not offered to help organise the coalition campaign. Other political parties, including Islington North Labour Party and Islington Trades Union Council, are affiliated to the coalition and play a full and active part in its campaign activities.
Hopefully, when you read this, the Lib Dems will have joined the coalition and supported its Day of Action yesterday (Thursday), instead of just participating in the worst kind of petty, political point-scoring.
