True stats on boundary changes

Published: 29 April, 2010

• BECAUSE of boundary changes voters in constituencies like Holborn and St Pancras cannot know the votes for each party in 2005.
But they don’t have to rely on misleading statistics used by political parties. Instead they can use unbiased estimates for 2005 drawn up for the BBC and other broadcasters so they can calculate the “swing” from 2005 to 2010 inside the new constituency boundaries. For Holborn and St Pancras the BBC website gives this estimate of how we voted in 2005: Lab 45.1 per cent, Lib Dem 26.2 per cent, Con 20.9 per cent, Others 7.8 per cent.
