Time to be adaptable

Published: 16 April, 2010

• WHAT is Gordon McIntosh complaining about (Mandatory internment, April 9)?
He’s been unemployed for nearly a year and says there are no jobs for college psychology lecturers. He complains that he will lose his benefits if he doesn’t attend training to find a job. He complains about spending time with “less qualified” people and being subject to behavioural techniques.
Surely, as a trainee psychology lecturer, the idea of any of his potential students studying behavioural techniques must have been devastating. Also, why shouldn’t Mr McIntosh be adaptable in a time of recession, develop an alternative career and apply for college lecturer jobs if they become available?
He accepts there are jobs in his sector. Therefore, he expects taxpayers to pay for his benefits until a potential employer offers him a job.
