Money back!

• I WRITE about parking tickets received by drivers parked on single yellow lines on Good Friday and bank holiday Monday in Camden.
Our traffic orders, relating to single yellow lines, make it clear that we can issue tickets over the bank holiday weekends.
However in recent years Camden has on a discretionary basis taken the decision, as a gesture of goodwill, not to issue parking tickets to cars parked on single yellow lines on Good Friday and bank holiday Monday.
Over the Easter period this year we did enforce parking regulations and displayed this information on our website, but realise that many motorists may have been confused by the inconsistency.
Given the history of non-enforcement we have taken the decision to cancel or refund any parking tickets issued on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
For those who have paid already we will be issuing a full refund.
The majority of these have been by credit/debit card payment, and this will be shortly refunded directly to the account from which payment was made.
For the handful of people who have paid by other means we will need to have contact details, and we would ask that you contact parking services on 020 7974 4648. Anyone who wishes to inquire as to whether their particular ticket received on one of the two days is one of those cancelled can use the same number.
I regret any inconvenience caused and I would like to confirm that we will not be enforcing on single yellow lines on forthcoming bank holidays, although we will continue to enforce against obstructive or dangerous parking and against parking on double yellow lines, disabled bays and doctors’ bays, as has been our custom.
I would note that some central London authorities do enforce single yellow lines on bank holidays so drivers would be advised to check with individual councils. We hope to liaise with other authorities in the coming months to see if we can come to a single, agreed, practice.

Acting Assistant Director Public Realm & Sustainability, Camden Council
