Letters Extra - One area by King’s Cross that needs to be safer for pedestrians
Published: 29 April, 2010
• THE letter from the King’s Cross Conservation Area Advisory Committee (Look again at use of King’s Cross lands, April 22) highlights the sad state of the extensive lands behind the station, which may, given the current state of our economy, not see any development for many years.
The committee’s suggestions for temporary usage are eminently sensible and desirable, but what is needed immediately is some attention to Goods Way.
It is seeing increasing pedestrian traffic, as rail travellers struggle to find their way to King’s Cross, and locals and visitors make their way to the Kings Place development.
Yet the pavements are narrow, interrupted by a dangerous site entry worsened by “cattle-truck” railings, and currently entirely erased on the north side by construction work.
Drivers seem to treat its open vistas as an excuse to race, often far in excess of the limit.
