Housing: Five-point plan
Publsihed: 16 April, 2010
• HOUSING issues are the biggest concern raised by residents at our weekly advice surgeries.
To address Conservative housing failures, Labour councillors have launched a five-point plan for better housing in Westminster:
l We will build new, affordable, homes for local families in all parts of Westminster, including Chelsea Barracks, North Wharf Road and the long-vacant site at the corner of Church Street and Edgware Road.
l We will improve housing managements for tenants and lessees by overhauling CityWest Homes and making them more accountable to residents.
l We will take tough action against illegal sub-letting of council flats – a practice which is denying homes to many people in housing need.
l Working closely with the local police teams, we will take tough action against residents responsible for anti-social behaviour.
l We will introduce a programme to insulate homes to cut fuel bills and reduce carbon emissions.
Westminster Conservatives’ housing record is one of the worst in the country and many residents in dire housing need have to wait years for a suitable home. Overcrowding has never been more acute and the repairs service is very poor. CityWest Homes needs a complete overhaul so that it provides a much better service to tenants and leaseholders.
These are our top priorities for a fairer Westminster and we are pledged to deliver for local residents.
