Homes needed
• POLITICIANS beware, the “gravy train” has hit the buffers and the casualties are, and will be, those who ignore the people’s call for change.
Vacated homes are being sold month by month by local authorities and housing associations despite the acute shortage of affordable rented homes. This must stop unless replaced one-for-one.
Economic policies are needed that will reduce the national debt, encourage business enterprise and create jobs that will produce taxes to pay for public services. Jobs in the manufacturing, building and allied industries, and policies to provide more affordable rented homes.
Billions are wasted in government grants to housing associations to build more so called affordable homes (part buy/part rent). Such homes do not represent good value to desperate home-seekers on low to medium incomes.
Housing associations have become an instrument of government. It’s time for such organisations to be publicly accountable.
