Gang war…

Published: 29 April, 2010

• WAY back in 1981, I was walking through Notting Hill, when I came across the spectacle of Roy Jenkins on the steps of his palatial residence, waving goodbye to his SDP colleagues Shirley Williams, David Owen and William (Bill) Rodgers.
I didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the beginning which would lead to the Liberal Democrats. But, as they waved back the chauffeurs and opened the doors of their limousines, there was an overwhelming smell of leather and port.
Later I thought to myself however much they promised to “heal divisions between classes”, or “have a fairer distribution of wealth”, these people were not on the side of the working classes.
The Lib Dems are still making empty populist promises, and in council, are still selling off working class and elderly person’s properties, so that their rich and middle class friends can benefit.
There is no magic wand that will stop this kind of exploitation.
But, a civilised nation stands up proud, and takes care of its disabled and poor, and in the last few years, we have seen this happening.
This is why I shall be voting Labour again.
Whoever you think should be in government or council, please vote, but think deeply before you do!
