Fantastic Vox
Published: 2 April 2010
READERS may like to know that Vox Holloway, a community choir based at St Luke’s Church in Holloway – featured recently in the Tribune – raised a fantastic £12,000 for the Haiti disaster appeal following a sell-out concert on Sunday.
The choir of 80 adults and 60 children performed Requiem in Blue by Harvey Brough, formerly of Harvey and the Wallbangers, to an audience of 350. Money was raised by ticket and programme sales, sponsorship from the children’s choirs and donations from “justgiving” sites set up by choir members.
The money is going to the DEC appeal for Haiti.
Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander gave his support prior to the concert, saying it will make a practical difference to the lives of people who need our help right now.
Mr Alexander adds: “But more than this, it also sends a message about what a community can achieve together, united by a purpose.
“I’m particularly delighted that so many children are able to take part in tonight’s concert – and have the chance to be part of a community that reaches out across the globe to help make a better future for others.”
