Demolition and feeling disbelief
Published 1 April, 2010
• MORE than 40 years ago we came to Silverdale from one room at the top of a crumbling Victorian house, infested with rats and water running down the walls (High-speed rail link tenants: ‘Don’t demolish our homes’, March 25).
Imagine then our delight and happiness when we stood in an airy, spacious, modern home.
Immediately there were lots of neighbours at our door welcoming us to their community, they themselves having moved from the slums of Albany Street many years before.
But now we stand here, looking around our home in disbelief, trying to understand that soon everything will be just a heap of rubble laying on the ground.
