Defending animals

• I WAS delighted to see the Tribune had the foresight to publish an article about Animals Count, who are standing in Islington South and Finsbury (Animals champion off the leash, April 23).
What they have to say is refreshing and shows how improving the welfare of animals has a massively beneficial effect on human beings. They advocate an NHS for animals and are the only party to address the growing evidence of a link between cruelty to animals and cruelty to human beings, particularly children.
Most people realise their lives will not change noticeably whichever main party gets in, so I hope the people of Islington will show they have the originality to vote for someone different.
