The danger of knives
Published: 2 April 2010
THE shocking case of a teenage boy losing his life at Victoria Station last week reinforces the ever-present danger of knife crime across the capital.
This was a senseless waste of life and a tragedy for the victim’s family and friends.
Although this instance did not
involve any school children from Westminster, we are not prepared to tolerate children, either in Westminster or those travelling into our area, carrying knives or any weapon, and we will work closely with the police to tackle the issue across London.
It is completely unacceptable for people of any age to carry knives.
If you carry a knife, it will get used, and we are all aware of the tragic consequences that can follow.
In Westminster we are targeting the gang culture behind knife crime.
Although we do not have the problems other areas do, our communities and visitors need to be kept safe, so it is important we tackle emerging problems head-on as quickly as possible.”
