We backed the troops

• YOUR article, (Protests at far-right Euro party’s meeting in pub, December 10), quotes John Coyne, publican of the Gloucester Arms saying that the Leighton Road Neighbourhood Association’s complaints “had prevented him from holding a fundraising event for troops returning from Afghanistan”.
This is untrue; indeed, a couple of weeks ago, the CNJ rang one of our members to ask if we were against the forthcoming event and was told that, on the contrary, we were happy to support it – but there was no event: no parade, no horses (as planned by Mr Coyne), not even a serviceman in sight.
The LRNA had no problem with Mr Coyne’s event for the troops.
