My backlash is against Christmas road closures
• I SHOULD like to correct a quotation in your story (Backlash at naked road, December 3).
When I said that businesses in Chalk Farm Road are being badly affected in the run-up to Christmas, I was referring not to the new, slimline, Camden High Street but to the delayed resurfacing work being carried out on Chalk Farm Road in the eight weeks to December 18.
Seven roads lead to Chalk Farm Road. Six of these have signs diverting traffic to Camden, which may partly explain the clogged-up High Street.
The chief executive of Camden Town Unlimited says that we can’t have improvements without disruption. Quite so, but whose idea was it to arrange this disruption for the two busiest shopping months of the year?
Perhaps Simon Pitkeathley can now apply himself to helping the beleaguered shopkeepers of Chalk Farm Road to obtain a rate rebate.
