Look past front door
• I WOULD like to commend Notting Hill Trust for finally putting in plans to create more affordable housing in Islington. The planning application for the proposed block is a vast improvement on the current unsightly warehouse.
If those quoted in your article (‘Homes will dwarf a jewel’ warning, November 27) cared to look over the planning application they will see it is far from the “slum” described and if anything will add a lot more to the character of the area than the current warehouse and car park.
As a recently graduated 24-year-old who moved to London two years ago and who lives on a decent salary, I can vouch for the difficulties that potential first-time buyers face in the capital due to the extortionate house prices and current lack of property available on a part-buy basis. Surely home ownership is something that should be encouraged and the Notting Hill Trust scheme does just that.
I believe those campaigning against this project should look beyond their front door and support a project that will provide affordable housing in Islington.
