Class act... Headteacher Martin Tissot meets Gordon Brown
They say success opens doors, but you have to be in a different league of success to cross the threshold of Number 10.
Martin Tissot, headteacher at St George’s School, did exactly that this week, when he met Prime
Minister Gordon Brown, as a reward for his role in making the school the fifth most improved in the country.
Over the past five years the Maida Vale school has also been the most improved in the capital.
This year the number of pupils achieving five GCSE passes
including English and mathematics rocketed to 51 per cent from 31 per cent the previous year.
Mr Tissot was among heads from improved schools who met Mr Brown and Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families at a special reception.
