WORKMEN gave life-saving first-aid to an eight-year-old boy after he was knocked down by a car as he tried to cross a Holloway road.
The boy was hit by a sports car near traffic lights in Camden Road shortly after 9am on Tuesday.
He remains in St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, where his condition is described as “non-life threatening”. The accident involving a black Audi happened at the busy junction with Brecknock Road and York Way. It is understood the boy was walking to school accompanied by family members when the accident happened.
There are a number of primary schools in the area, including Tufnell Park, Torriano and Brecknock, but it is not known which he attended.
A police officer said workmen from a nearby construction site had stemmed the blood flow with their overalls and used the site first-aid kit while they waited for paramedics to arrive.
Trevor Mingail, manager at the Quadrillion Construction building site, said: “We were up the scaffolding when we heard the crash. He flew up in the air. We rushed down and I rang the ambulance.
“We stayed with him until the ambulance came. It didn’t take very long but we did what we could.”
No arrests were made and police closed the road until about midday.
