PARENTS have paid tribute to a popular headteacher who is moving on after 16 years at a Kentish Town school.

Ashley Streeter is leaving St Dominic’s Primary, in Southampton Road, for some “well-deserved” time off, before considering other posts.

Joining the school in 1995 as a class teacher, she rose to deputy headteacher before eventually taking the helm five years ago.

She will be replaced by Kathy Bannon, headteacher at Richard Cobden Primary in Camden Town. As executive head, she will steer both schools.

Parents, who say Ms Streeter has “done wonders” for their children, are holding an assembly in her honour today (Thursday).

Gemma Reeves, a member of the school’s parents’ and carers’ association, said: “She will go to work at 7am and not leave until 7pm.

“She genuinely cares about your children and makes them want to go to school and learn.

“When she goes she will leave a big hole in her place. The school won’t be the same without her.”

Parents said Ms Streeter was never afraid to get involved with the children, even dancing as pupils formed a circle around her during her leaving party on Friday.

She staged an international garden party every year, with bouncy castles, face painting and food stalls.

Parent Keisha McNamara said: “She’s done wonders for my son and he’s gutted she’s leaving. But she’s also brilliant with parents. We’re welcome any time and sometimes spend more time there than at home.”
