String along - Violins presented to St Mary’s CoE Primary School
Published: 11 February, 2011
FOURTEEN violins valued at £650 have been handed over to children in a primary school at Angel by generous church parishioners.
The instruments were presented to St Mary’s Church of England Primary School by members of St Mary’s Church, Upper Street.
The church organist, Andrew Adigun, is helping the children with their singing, and Foote’s music shop in Golden Square, Bloomsbury, provided most of the violins, at a reduced price.
The Vicar of St Mary’s, the Rev Simon Harvey, a governor at the school, said: “We’re proud of our links with the school.
“The children are always keen to make the most of new opportunities and I’m looking forward to hearing their violin playing.”
The school started nearly 300 years ago in the vestry of St Mary’s Church.
