Butterfly images are being stamped on the beds and medical notes of University College Hospital patients with dementia
THE idea is to help nurses identify patients with the debilitating memory loss condition who may need extra special attention.
Blue wristbands are also being given to dementia patients as part of the Butterfly Scheme.
UCL nurse consultant for older people Vicki Leah said: “Patients with dementia are mothers, husbands, former models, former Spitfire pilots. We all need to be reminded of the person behind the illness.”
Camden and Islington Foundation Trust is currently consulting on closing two of its four mental health hospitals. The possible closures will see more patients with mental illness admitted to other hospital wards.
