Whittington Hospital's star nurses singing at Royal Albert Hall to boost charities

ONE moment they were just four busy nurses hurrying about the wards. Today the “singing sisters” are about to hit the big time while also putting Whittington Hospital on the map.
Jo Austin, Andrea Darke, Sharon Robinson and Gaynor Wood have formed The Nurses and promise they won’t let fame change them.
The women, who started out singing at friends’ weddings and parties, have got the same producer behind hit group The Soldiers, and a charity album is due out in March.
They will be singing at the Royal Albert Hall in May for a Dusty Springfield tribute evening in aid of breast cancer and at the London Palladium later on in the year.
Midwife Gaynor, from Finchley, said they are strictly singing for charity, in this case Macmillan Cancer Support, and have no plans to retire from nursing and go professional.
“We enjoy nursing and we like the Whittington,” she added.
“And we also love singing. But our feet are firmly on the ground and we are nurses first and foremost.”
Producer Jake Hook said: “My Mum is a nurse. I know how hard they work and how dedicated they are and I wanted to celebrate that, highlight the unsung heroes in society.”
