THE streets might not be paved with gold in the age of austerity, but that hasn’t stopped Chester Square in Westminster from having some of the most pricey real estate around, according to a new study.
Research conducted by Lloyds TSB indicates that the small, but opulent, residential square, just a stone’s throw from the King’s Road in SW1, had the eighth highest average house prices in England and Wales between 2006 and 2010 – with properties fetching almost £3.5million a time.
London streets dominate the list – just two of the top 20 were from elsewhere.
The borough of Westminster was also represented in the top-20 list by Springfield Road (19th) and Trevor Place (20th).
Parkside in Merton, SW19, came out on top, with house prices averaging just over £5million.
Nitesh Patel, a housing economist at Lloyds TSB, said: “Prime, central London locations continue to attract affluent celebrities and ultra wealthy foreign businessmen, helping to drive up house prices.”
